THE NIGHT BEFORE
DAY 1 – EDALE TO WESSENDEN HEAD RESERVOIR
The Pennine Way is England’s most famous national walking trail, a 268-mile slog from the Peak District to the Scottish border. Through hikers began at Edale in Derbyshire, and must navigate other significant obstacles including Pen-Y-Ghent, Cross Fell and the Cheviots before finally crossing the Scottish border. Weather is severe, camping is cold, moorland is bleak and wayfinding can be surprisingly challenging. But it remains one of the world’s great long-distance trails.
